About Us

Hartwood Health was set up in October 2019 by Paula Wood, a registered dietitian with many years of experience. She strongly believes that health issues are rarely solved in isolation. Instead, a whole-body approach is required to identify where a problem originates and how to achieve better health.

It is for this reason that Hartwood Health has a broad team of specialists,
covering nutrition, counselling, musculoskeletal health, and more.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.
We can discuss your concerns and assist in finding the most appropriate treatment for you.

Biodynamic Massage

Biodynamic Massage is a deeply restorative form of therapeutic touch that recognises the profound connection between body, mind, and emotions. Developed within the field of Body Psychotherapy, it uses a range of techniques to help regulate the nervous system, release physical and emotional tension, and support the body’s natural capacity for self-healing.

Unlike many other types of massage, Biodynamic Massage works beyond the muscles – it helps clients literally digest their stress, not just mentally but physically too. This principle is based on Gerda Boyesen’s theory of psycho-peristalsis – the movement of the intestines that reflects how emotional experiences are processed in the body.

The massage can be given directly on the skin or through light clothing, without the use of oils or powders. During a session, Ingrid may listen through a stethoscope to the sounds in the client’s abdomen, using these as biofeedback to understand how the body is responding in the moment and to guide the treatment.

Biodynamic Massage can be particularly helpful for those experiencing stress, anxiety, chronic tension, sleep difficulties, or emotional overwhelm, as well as for anyone seeking greater self-awareness and wellbeing. Ingrid offers sessions both as part of her Body Psychotherapy practice and as standalone treatments, available regularly or on an ad hoc basis.

Karen Hylden

Indian Head Massage

Karen has always had an interest in alternative therapies whilst working largely in administrative roles.

After being made redundant at the end of 2024, there were no longer the same limits on her time and energy, and this gave her the jump start she needed.

Wasting no time, she embarked on her training in Indian Head Massage, something she had been interested in pursuing for years. She has always been a fan of receiving such amazing therapeutic massages, especially when combined with lovely essential oils.

Karen is also exploring other therapies such as Tsuboki Japanese hand, facial and foot massage, which she hopes to be qualified in soon!

Karen lives in Fleet with her husband and two dogs. When she's not working, you'll find her in her kitchen experimenting with new cuisines, Mediterranean and MIddle Eastern in particular.
